WOMEN OF ROTARY

In March 1942, Abbie Lane invited several Rotary wives to meet at the Nova Scotian when the "Women of Rotary" was organized. This group meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month and has given and continues to give assistance to the Rotarians in some of their community projects. The first officers were:
•President – Abbie Lane;
•Vice President – Verna Ford;
Corresponding Secretary - Anne Arthey;
Recording Secretary – Berta Crosby.

For years, up to and including 1979, they looked after the refreshments and gifts for the Christmas parties at the City Home and the Abbie Lane Hospital. Their help was also appreciated during the Easter Seal Stuffing Bees, and the occasional expedition to Camp Tidnish.

Since 1981, as their own project, they have supported the Bryony House for battered women. Groceries, bedding and towels are supplied, and at their annual dinner, gifts are brought for the unfortunate women and children there.
