OTHER ROTARY CLUBS
As noted the Rotary Club of Halifax was the first Rotary Club established in the Atlantic region of Canada and it has maintained an image of parenthood by sponsoring and assisting in the formation of many other Clubs in this area and elsewhere.
In May 1914, John Gass encouraged the formation of a Rotary Club in Saint John, N.B., which club was visited by 15 of our members on November 16, 1914.Dean MacRae presented a Rotary Charter to the new club of Charlottetown, P. E. I. on October 24, 1917.
Several of our members were present at the inauguration of a Rotary club in Sydney on April 29, 1920 and the next year our club sponsored one at St. John's, Newfoundland.
In 1922 Arthur Barnstead presented a Charter to the new club in Yarmouth and on February 21, 1924 Fred Bond performed the same duty at New Glasgow.
Rotary Clubs at Truro, in 1926 and Windsor, in 1929 were assisted in early details by members of our club. Then two other local Clubs: that of Dartmouth, in 1953 and Halifax Northwest, in 1957 were organized by our Club.
In more recent times, under the leadership of our club President Harry Churchill, we assisted in the establishment of a Rotary Club in Bridgewater in 1995; thus ending a more than 80 year Rotary “draught” on Nova Scotia’s South Shore.
