Foundation Cans

The Rotary Club of Halifax has commenced its 3rd year of using “Foundation Cans” to encourage members to save an annual donation for The Rotary Foundation.

Members are encouraged to donate a “loonie” or a “toonie” to the can weekly.

Cans are handed to the members in mid January to be returned during the Rotary Foundation month of November. The Club’s Foundation Committee open and count the cans contents. Each can is numbered and the members name and can number is noted when the cans are handed out in January so that the total donation in the can from the member is recorded for sending the Rotarian’s name and donation to The Rotary Foundation in December. This enables a Tax receipt to be received for the donation in a given tax year.

The use of cans has increased the club’s Rotary Foundation Annual Fund donations for the past 2 years, as it has been in addition to the regular monthly, quarterly and annual donations made by other club members. In the most recently completed Rotary year, July 1st 2006 to June 30th 2007 the club record the third highest per member average donation to the Annual Fund in our District 7820.

The Foundation Committee encourage members to improve on this result in the current Rotary year, July 1st 2007 to June 30th 2008.
