| DISTRICT GOVERNORS
Our Club has Furnished District Governors as Follows:
1915-1916: John C. Gass - Divisional Supervisor of the Imperial Life Assurance Company, prominent in all good works, President of Maritime Conference Laymen's Association, organizing laymen's groups throughout the Maritimes.
1916-1917:Hon. Charles J. Burchell - outstanding statesman and member of the Privy Council. His grandson is active in our Club today.
1917-1918: Dean Donald MacRae - Dean of Dalhousie Law School, and later Osgoode Hall, Toronto.
1920-1921: Frederic H. Sexton - leading educationalist, President of Nova Scotia Technical College and ardent salmon fisherman.
1932-1933: Chesley Allen - gave his live to service for the blind. He was Assistant Superintendent (1919-1932) and Superintendent of the Halifax School for the Blind from 1933 until his death.
1950-1951: Edwin K. Ford - another leader in educational development, teacher and Director of Vocational Education for the Province of Nova Scotia.
1958-1959: Fred MacKinnon - Deputy Minister of Welfare for the Province of Nova Scotia and active leader in a host of community activities for the betterment of the community. When he retired from his position as Deputy Minister of Welfare, he remained active as the fulltime Director of the newly formed Senior Citizens’ Secretariat.
1968-1969: H.R. "Pat" Wyman was, for years, in civic politics as alderman and Deputy Mayor; Chairman of the Victoria General Hospital for two years, Chairman of the Maritime Conservatory of Music, and the Halifax Regional Vocational School and twice Chairman of the Halifax School Board.
1981-82: W.H. "Bill" McCurdy, Executive Manager of the Downtown Business Men's Association - previously President of McCurdy Printing Company, President of Petheric Press and a Director of the Joe Howe Festival Society. |
